Technion Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting
Since 2012, the Technion has submitted an annual report to the Ministry of Environmental Protection detailing its emission sources and the amount of greenhouse gases emitted on campus. This report is part of the institution’s commitment to environmental transparency and reducing its carbon footprint.
The submitted document outlines emission sources according to Scope 1 – direct emissions from campus activities, such as heating systems and diesel engines, and Scope 2 – indirect emissions resulting from electricity consumption produced by external sources.
In 2023, as part of its efforts to expand environmental reporting, the Technion calculated Scope 3 emissions for the year 2019 for the first time. This calculation includes additional indirect emissions, such as transportation, business travel, supply chain, and waste management, providing a broader and more in-depth view of the institution’s overall environmental impact. These data support the Technion in developing strategies for emission reduction and implementing energy efficiency solutions as part of its ongoing sustainability efforts on campus.
